The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine has launched a landmark search for a visionary leader in free-ranging wildlife health, a faculty appointment that will also serve as Director of the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center.
This Associate/Full Professor position offers a rare opportunity to guide globally recognized wildlife health programs, steward a $7-8 million annual operating portfolio, and advance applied, policy-relevant research rooted in real-world conservation and field experience. Embedded within the One Health Institute, the role places One Health at its core, integrating wildlife, human, and environmental health across complex national and international partnerships.
As the first wildlife health faculty position of its kind at UC Davis, this appointment builds on the legacy of Murray Fowler, the father of Zoological Medicine, and represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the future of the discipline. The successful candidate will teach across the DVM curriculum, residencies, externships, and graduate programs (MPVM, MS, PhD), mentor emerging leaders, and set a bold, global vision for wildlife health in the decades ahead.
