The California Mountain Lion Project was originally formed in 2001 to focus on Southern California mountain lion conservation. The project was begun and directed for several years by Dr. Walter Boyce, then Dr. Winston Vickers, and has now been expanded as the California Carnivores program under the leadership of Dr. Fernando Nájera.
