In 2026, the research program expanded to include bobcats as part of its growing study portfolio. Through research conducted under a California Department of Fish & Wildlife Scientific Collecting Permit, the team is working to better understand bobcat ecology, health, their role in California’s ecosystems, and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.
By advancing scientific knowledge about these elusive native carnivores, the project aims to help inform future conservation, management, and wildlife health efforts across the state. Science-based conservation begins with understanding, and this work represents an important step toward protecting California’s native wildlife and the ecosystems they help sustain.
